Dawn Hynes, MSW

Dawn Hynes, Founder of Hynes Recovery Services, holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis. She is a passionate advocate dedicated to making eating disorder treatment accessible to more people and providing practitioners with state-of-the-art training and resources. For the past 25 years, Dawn has been active in eating disorder recovery work as an advocate, clinician, and volunteer. She has trained staff, developed clinical manuals, and worked with groups and individuals at Boston Children’s Hospital and Laurel Hill Inn’s Residential Treatment Program. As a volunteer, she has helped thousands of families nationwide find resources and treatment referrals, created and distributed comprehensive eating disorder manuals to eating disorder organizations nationwide and has also worked with a team of clinicians helping both celebrities and Olympic athletes connect to treatment.

Dawn founded Hynes Recovery Services out of the significant need to provide college students and their families with the tools and resources necessary to ensure a successful transition to college for those battling an eating disorder. It is located in two separate Massachusetts communities (Wellesley and Falmouth), in order to better provide access to the in-person clinical support she provides when families request her assistance in obtaining effective treatment for a loved one. In addition, through the College Assistance Program (CAP Program), Dawn will also be providing support to high school students nationwide, who are in need of securing treatment during the transition period from high school to college.

Dawn also has an extensive background in domestic violence: her most recent position was that of Director of the Health Center Domestic Violence Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. In this field, she developed best practices and standards, created and delivered trainings for advocates, providers, and attorneys, as well as personally raising over one million dollars for domestic violence programs and services.

Dawn Hynes is a proud member of both the Academy for Eating Disorders and the Eating Disorders Coalition.

“Dawn Hynes is a Godsend for families and individuals dealing with eating disorders (ED). Whenever I receive a particularly difficult case, and have exhausted my resources, I send them to Dawn. I honestly do not know how she does it, but without fail she discovers solutions that hadn't even occurred to me. 'Giving up' does not appear to be in Dawn's vocabulary. I am so very grateful to have her to send those whom others have erroneously labeled as 'hopeless'. Dawn Hynes is a tireless advocate and knowledgeable, compassionate professional.” – Doris Smeltzer, MA, Author, Andrea's Voice (Gurze Books, 2006)
